The Squamish Windsports Society is a non-profit society providing sailors with access to a high wind sailing location where the Squamish River meets Howe Sound. Squamish has more high performance sailing days than most other places in North America. Sunshine and steady wind provide ideal conditions for kiteboarding and windsurfing here in beautiful British Columbia.

The plan to remove land access to the Spit creates the exact scenario the Howe Sound Economic forum sought to avoid. If sections of The Spit road are removed without alternative land access (such as the proposed realignment via 3rd Ave), the pressure placed on existing locations like Oceanfront will be immense.

A better solution is possible, one which was originally proposed by the SRWS which would preserve access to the Spit while supporting the habitats of salmons and other wildlife in the area. That solution isn’t possible if this project goes ahead this year in the manner currently planned by the Watershed Society and the DFO.
