Julia Smith wins Rotary scholarship to study at the University of Bradford in England.
Julia Smith has become one of only 60 young people world-wide to receive a Rotary World Peace Fellowship for 2008. She will use the scholarship to achieve her Masters in Peace Studies at the University of Bradford in England beginning in September 2008.

Julia's connection with Rotary began as a highschool student when she was chosen as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student to South Africa. After returning and graduating from the University of Victoria, she returned to Africa, this time to Kenya, as an intern with CIDA. Following her year as an intern, she began working with the Emmanuel Boyz Rescue Centre - a centre that provides a home, counseling, education and health care to 40 former street boys.

Julia has inspired the community of Squamish to help support EBRC and her passion and commitment to street boys has resulted in the Interact clubs at Don Ross Secondary and Howe Sound Secondary, as well as the Rotary Club of Squamish, to take on EBRC as their international projects.

The community's involvement has not just focused on fundraising. Many community members have visited EBRC, forming lasting relationships with the boys and helping to build capacity by sharing skills. These relationships help advance international understanding, goodwill and peace.

The Rotary Club of Squamish is proud to have played a small role in Julia receiving this fellowship, and we know she will go on to achieve many great things in the future.

Congratulations Julia!!
